YouTube is an American online video-sharing platform where users can watch, like, share, comment and upload their own videos. The video service can be accessed on PCs, laptops, tablets and via mobile phones.
According to Wikipedia, YouTube was created by three former PayPal employees - Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim in February 2005. Google bought the site in November 2006 for US$1.65 billion; YouTube now operates as one of Google's subsidiaries.
YouTube is now one of the most popular sites on the Web, with visitors watching around 6 billion hours of video every month. Am sure you have been on YouTube recently, either to watch the latest music video, some comedy skits, football highlight or something interesting.
For many people, YouTube is a site where they can spend endless hours watching videos like: movie trailer, DIY tutorials, product reviews or playing video games. But for me, YouTube is a way to make money.
How YouTube Make Money
There are some people who do not believe that it is possible to make money on the Internet. In reality, there are countless successful stories of people who have made their fortune online. YouTube is just one of many ways you can become an Internet millionaire.

- The actual rates an advertiser pays varies, usually between $0.10 to $0.30 per view, but averages out at $0.18 per view.

How to Create Your Own YouTube Channel

- Adding links to your sites – this can include custom links to a website or blog as well as social links to Instagram or Twitter

Upload Videos
Try to upload content that is high quality, and isn’t super long. You can be uploading videos like comedy skit, short movies, you can do talk shows or you can do football reviews/previews.
There are so many things you can make videos about. DIY (Do It Yourself), life hacks, games, music, entertainment, news, politics, tutorial, fashion and much more!
Also, try to upload regularly and stay consistent with your uploads. Your video contents might not look great at first, keep at it. Practice makes perfect. Try to make each video better than the last. You will often learn as you go.
By uploading regularly you can help hold an audience. Improve your content by either using a better camera or trying better editing software or techniques.

Building an audience is key to increasing your monetization. You need people to watch your advertisement in order to make money from your video. There is no one secret to getting more subscribers, just make the best content that you can and they will come to you.
Keep uploading content and try to get people hooked. Send your video out on Twitter and Facebook. Share it with people. Distribute it elsewhere on the internet. Subscribers are essential to becoming a partner.
Interact with your viewers by responding to comments and making occasional videos directly related to viewer comments and questions. Connecting with your community will bring more members into that community.
You only gain money per ad click and a smaller amount per view but it adds up over time. This is why having an audience is key.
How to Start Making Money with Your YouTube Videos
For you to start making money on YouTube, you have to enable monetization in your YouTube account settings. From there, you have options to join the YouTube Partners Program or have your videos listed on YouTube Premium.
This means you are allowing YouTube to place ads in your video. This also means that you acknowledge that there is no copyrighted material in your video.
To qualify for monetization, your channel has to be a year old with at least 4,000 hours of watch time and at least 1,000 subscribers. This policy went into effect at the beginning of 2020 and is another way for YouTube to prioritize watch time.

How to enable monetization on YouTube (in 4 Steps)
Once you have achieved the total number of required YouTube hours and number of subscribers, then you are ready to enable monetization on your videos.
- Click on My Channel in the drop down after you click on your icon in the top right corner of the screen.
- From this screen, click on YouTube Studio.
- On the bottom, left-hand side of your screen, click the option for Creator Studio Classic.
- Once you’re in the Creator Studio, click on Channel > Status and Features. Finally, in the box that says Monetization, click Enable.
After you have enabled monetization, your videos will be submitted and approved for monetization.
NOTE: In order to earn the revenue that is generated from these ads, you will need to associate a Google AdSense account with your YouTube account.
How to Set up Google Adsense
You can set up Google AdSense for free at the AdSense website. Click the “Sign Up Now” button to begin creating your account. You must be 18 years or older to create your own account. If you are younger than that, you will need an adult to help you.
You need either PayPal or a bank account and a valid mailing address as well as other information so AdSense can verify who you are and who to send the money to.
Why you should look beyond Google AdSense for revenue
You will never get approved or get banded if your videos are not complying with YouTube terms and conditions, and this is why you should look beyond ads revenue if your contents are not meeting up with ads revenue standard.
According to YouTube, your content could get excluded from ad revenue if it includes:
- Sexually suggestive contents
- Violence
- Inappropriate language
- Promotion of drugs and regulated substances
- Controversial or sensitive subjects and events
